34 • HINTS&TIPS PROUD SPONSORS OF THIS PAGE How to retrofit a Yale Keyless Connected Smart Door Lock The Yale Keyless Connected Smart Door Lock gives homeowners the freedom to secure their timber door without the need for a key. So, they don’t need to worry if the kids arrive home early, or if they are stuck at work with friends waiting on their doorstep – they can control who has access to their home and when. 1 2 Examine the existing nightlatch and make a note whether the lock turns left or right. 3 Using a screwdriver, take apart the existing nightlatch case and mounting plate. This will enable you to remove the lock from the front of the door at the same time. Remove the existing staple from the doorframe. 4 Place the new Yale Keyless Connected Smart Door lock in the hole on the outside of the door with the battery cable though the 15mm hole. 5 Then, cut out and position the template provided - which can be found in the installation guide - on the door, lining it up with the existing 32mm hole on the door. Then, mark the central point where the 15mm hole is to be drilled. Using a 15mm timber drill bit, drill this hole, ensuring you drill from both sides of the door and making sure the hole is straight. Then, using the ruler on the template, measure from the door surface and mark the connecting bar, ensuring it is horizontal. The length required will vary depending on the nightlatch. Remove the lock from the door and carefully cut the connecting bar at the marked point. The projection of the connecting bar is important to ensure the lock works correctly. Do not cut the tail bar shorter than necessary. LOCKSMITHJOURNAL.CO.UK | JUL/AUG 2018 Sponsored by APECS
