A Virtual Sawmill
Imagine you could plan to fell a forest without leaving
your chair? Technology developed by Irish company
Treemetrics and by Science Foundation Ireland
researchers at University College Cork lets users
non-invasively measure and virtually optimise the
management of forest resources. The laser technology
physically measures trees in a forest then converts
and represents the data in a way that allows better use
of forest resources and less wastage. The company,
which now offers measurement and ‘virtual sawmill’
technology to analyse forest resources quickly and
accurately, is working with partners and clients around
the world.
