Spring 2015 to come of it they were just using up time before they again went their separate ways. Eventually and unsurprisingly she takes off as suddenly as she appeared, probably to start the same story again 100 miles further east. I challenge you to make your own story up from this, put yourself in the shoes of one of these characters and try and catch a glimpse of their lives, their hopes, their dreams, their loneliness and sometimes despair … it's an interesting ride. Thanks for listening, bless you all Simon Stanton County Simon Veasey 19/1/15 And we watched the sun come up over Stanton County She had an old ragtop Pontiac It was a ‘79 with the chrome wheels on Brown vinyl trim crackin’ from the sun She drove that sucker up from Hollywood Just like summer we could never last Drinkin' too much and livin' to fast Woke one morning she was gone Took my heart and moved right on It was late July and the days were long Kickin’ my heels in this boondock town Pickin’ guitar at the Carousel Lounge She joined the rest of us lost and found And sometimes I wonder what could have been When she kisses me again in my dreams Sittin’ alone bottle in hand Watchin’ the sun go down over Stanton County When the sun went down we worked ‘till dawn She worked the pole and I got the door And the end of the shift I walked her home And we watched the sun come up over Stanton County Work was hard and it filled our days We never love get in the way She were my pretty little waste of time Take that ol’car out to the state line Lie in the back and watch the stars Dream like lovers in each other’s arms And the end of the night she’d drive us home The Linnet's Wings
