Spring 2015
to come of it they were just using up time before they again went their separate ways. Eventually and
unsurprisingly she takes off as suddenly as she appeared, probably to start the same story again 100
miles further east.
I challenge you to make your own story up from this, put yourself in the shoes of one of these
characters and try and catch a glimpse of their lives, their hopes, their dreams, their loneliness and
sometimes despair … it's an interesting ride.
Thanks for listening, bless you all

Stanton County
Simon Veasey 19/1/15
And we watched the sun come up over
Stanton County
She had an old ragtop Pontiac
It was a ‘79 with the chrome wheels on
Brown vinyl trim crackin’ from the sun
She drove that sucker up from
Hollywood
Just like summer we could never last
Drinkin' too much and livin' to fast
Woke one morning she was gone
Took my heart and moved right on
It was late July and the days were long
Kickin’ my heels in this boondock town
Pickin’ guitar at the Carousel Lounge
She joined the rest of us lost and found
And sometimes I wonder what could have been
When she kisses me again in my dreams
Sittin’ alone bottle in hand
Watchin’ the sun go down over Stanton County
When the sun went down we worked ‘till dawn
She worked the pole and I got the door
And the end of the shift I walked her home
And we watched the sun come up over
Stanton County
Work was hard and it filled our days
We never love get in the way
She were my pretty little waste of time
Take that ol’car out to the state line
Lie in the back and watch the stars
Dream like lovers in each other’s arms
And the end of the night she’d drive us home
