Around the World Alex Lopez was born in Matanzas, Cuba. His first flight from his homeland was to his adoptive US under Operation Pedro Pan. Lopez was selected to open travel between the USA and Cuba during President Carter’s administration and to lead the first delegation from Kent State University to Cuba. He coordinated travel for the United Nations - Non-Allied Nation Movement to Cuba and brought the world famous National Ballet of Cuba to the Kennedy Center. Lopez has traveled extensively, visiting all continents and covering 129 nations. In 2006, Lopez became the Travel Director for YFU USA. He looks forward to a future retirement back home in Cuba and hopes that one last travel dream will become a reality when he will welcome YFU students to Havana.
