The Evolution of the YFU Mark
By Kattis Åström, Global Brand Manager and Erin Helland, Director of Marketing and Communications
The new YFU Global brand has arrived! By
forming a common brand with shared expression of
purpose, relevant and modern imagery and a new
logo, YFU becomes a more visible, influential entity
recognizable anywhere in the world. The elements
that create this new brand not only celebrate YFU’s
history, but are also reflective of the organization’s
growth and transformation worldwide.
The YFU network is excited to implement a brand
that reflects our willingness to discover the best in
ourselves, strengthen international recognition, and
introduce our rich legacy to a new generation. With the
unveiling of the global brand, we thought it interesting
to share more about the history of the YFU logo.
A few alumni and friends of YFU may recall a
blue, oval logo with the letters “YFU” displayed
in the globe. This logo came into use in the late
1960s and was used for approximately 10 years.
Many do not realize another logo pre-dated the
“globe image.” In use while YFU was still operating under
the Michigan Council of Churches, stories of a prior logo
have been discovered describing an image with an open
book, a red torch held by two hands in front of the book,
cuffs decorated with buttons, showing national colors
on one, and a globe on the other. The left page of the
book displayed a golden capital “M”. The below version
of this logo was recreated from images of a lapel pin
given to YFU by a member of the 1966 Michigan Chorale.
