We received some good news from an alert Borough resident. They found on the internet a listing for documents
in the archives of the Hunterdon County Historical Society (HCHS) that includes records from the Lebanon
Telephone Co. spanning the period of 1901-1910. The archive was donated in 2017, and arrangements have been
made to review it. Years ago, the Borough History Committee presented an hour long presentation titled "The
"Telephone Comes to Lebanon". Since then we were fortunate to locate a stash of 113 documents from 1910 to
1920, including many billheads from local merchants. These two sources will add greatly to our knowledge of the
history of the company that connected all of Hunterdon County
The previous Lantern related the tragedy of the 1918 explosion and the resilience of the community. We recently
located a newspaper article that reported that the Odd Fellows had in ten years paid off the mortgage for the new
building.
