Here is the space for my mother’s chair at the table. Here is the empty plate she requested. I have placed a feeding tube next to the plate for decoration. Here is warm jello. Cup after cup, but not too fast. Here is that bottle of pills. I try not to read what they are for. This passes understanding. We must have faith. I mean to do more, but no one can know the will of Our Lady. I burn her clothes. Flames don’t harm them. A spirit lifts me from sleep. It is a 4AM delusion. Plastic bag over my head in the shower. Or horror-scene blood against the clear curtain. Will the record show she destroyed me?
