Washed Ashore

Laurie Kolp

Illumination seeps

through little eyelets

in the doll’s lace dress,

a rose-colored half-slip

clings to porcelain

like cheese cloth.

Above, a coral-burgundy

embroidered sunset,

like a streak of blood,

cracks less-perfected pattern-clips

sparks memory: a yellow pail

beneath baptismal gown in sewing room.
