THE RECYCLE ROTA BRITISH VALUES Whilst in the Student Council, we have been sorting out the recycling rotas and promoting them. This is so we can get most paper that normally goes into the bin, into our recycling bins, making our school greener. People who help student services will empty these every couple of days, keeping them tidy so there will be less rubbish wasted. Please look out for a more consistent programme of emptying recycling boxes around the school and let us know if you think we're missing any! By Jack Cutler and Sebastian Meikle (Year 7 and 9 respectively) EU DAY In the wake of the EU referendum, we decided to hold our own referendum on the 3rd March. Through the first two periods of the day, we learnt about the EU and what it means to be a member of the EU. We learnt about the Schengen Agreement, which is the free movement of people within the EU and we learnt about Norway, a country that never joined the union and is the closest comparison to what life outside the EU could look like. In lessons we explored the impact of both leaving or remaining on such things as; trade, employment and law making. Every pupil voted to either stay or to leave. The final result was 81% of votes in favour of remaining in the EU. We are now looking forward to the 23rd of June to see the result of the actual referendum! By Eliza Breeton (Year 10) As the Student Voice, we wanted to promote the positive message of British Values within our school. These include the key ideas of Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect. These values are at the core of everything the Kimberley School stands for and we also some times have stand alone sessions on the topics. To promote these further we have designed some new posters and circulated them around the school. Look out for them and let us know what you think! Student Voice For more information click here.
