Sixth Form student reports
on his silver medal award gained
at the AAU Junior Olympics in
Las Vegas
Roller Hockey and Ice Hockey have played a big
part in my life. My family are all huge Panther’s
fans which led to my cousin and I starting Ice
Hockey at about the age of 12. From this I
became involved in Roller Hockey and made the
trials and was successful in joining Sheffield Ice
Hockey Academy.
In the summer of 2014, I was chosen to play for
Great Britain in the under 16s team at the Amateur
Athletics Junior Olympics held in Las Vegas,
USA. The competition consisted of 2 separate
tournaments, one was a club level tournament
which was essentially the USA`s national finals.
The second tournament was the world championships. Unfortunately, in the first tournament,
we didn’t manage to get beyond the quarter
finals, although we did manage to reach 5th place
out of the 15 teams that qualified. The second
tournament however, we did get a better result.
Our team fought and battled with each opponent
we faced, thankfully beating high status teams
like Team Canada in the quarterfinals and Team
USA South in the semi-finals. This meant we
advanced into the final to face the “unbeaten”
Team USA North. The final game was a very
tough match for us but, despite our very best
