Activity Lunchtimes in the LRC
This half term included a commemoration of
Remembrance Day when students were
invited to make poppies and to read and write
war poetry, and Children in Need, when
students enjoyed making their own Pudsey
Bear badges. Our December Activity lunchtime will provide an opportunity to make a
Christmas decoration.
Congratulations to three
Year 7 students who are
already Word Millionaires:
Esther Blount, Mia Coupe and Greg
Swallow. Keep reading and quizzing!
Year 8 students have all now
received their free book, chosen
from the selection below. The books are
theirs to keep, and we look forward to
sharing in discussions about their choices
during lessons in the LRC after Christmas.
On Thursday 1st December, ten Year 8 students
travelled on a mini bus to Mansfield Library with Mrs
Haywood and Mrs Shaw for a special celebration of
Ten Years of The Brilliant Book Award.
The 2016 Award was presented to Kim Slater for her
book SMART. During her acceptance speech, she
introduced her latest novel, ‘A Seven-Letter Word’, a
mystery set in Nottingham.
We also enjoyed listening to another local author,
Paula Rawsthorne, the 2013 winner with her book
‘The Truth about Celia Frost’.
The Brilliant Book Award shortlisted books for 2017
were announced and copies of these books are
available to read and borrow from the LRC. Check the
