Remembrance Cricket Three young players from the Kimberley Institute Cricket Club laid a wreath during the town’s Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday 8th November 2015. Joe Boocker, Finlay Newton and Ewan Towle acted on behalf of all sports players in the area. Jim Dymond, a club committee member, said, “Youngsters may not find it easy to connect with black and white images of the soldiers who gave their lives. They may not realise just what sort of people they were. I hope they now see that in many cases they were typical of the fit young players we see on local sports grounds today.” Finlay Newton added, “I now see that they were just like the senior players at my club.” Students Enjoy Being at Kimberley! DIY SOS fame for our Luke! Those of us who remember Luke (Rossington – now Schofield) are not in the least surprised that he would be amongst the first to offer his skills free of charge to help a local family. Always a generous and cheerful character, Luke is a site supervisor for Oldfield Construction. The 20 year old proved his potential during an apprenticeship in building and construction, which he successfully secured after leaving The Kimberley School at the end of year eleven. He is seen here with the famous faces of the DIY SOS team after he volunteered to help with their big build in Heanor, alongside around 80 local trades’ people. Their effort over ten days transformed the house and lifestyle of a family with a disabled child. To see just what Luke and his fellow volunteers achieved, watch it on t.v. when it is expected to be aired just after Christmas. Over 250 randomly selected students participated in completing the Keele Survey with positive results. This independent survey gives pupils a platform to voice their opinions and provides a means of measuring satisfaction within our school. The chart above shows Kimberley’s overall figures for each of the 5 main categories against the national database average (based on responses from 45000 pupils in the UK). What is really pleasing to notice is that in all 5 areas, students at Kimberley are above the national average and students are being positive about their education here.
