LRC News All Year 7 and Year 8 students take part in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program as part of their English lessons and homework. After they have read a book, students take an online quiz to check their understanding. If they pass a quiz, the computer counts the number of words they have read. Tuesday Period 3 Year 7 students enjoying more reading with Reading Coaches from Years 9 & 10. Thursday lunchtimes in the LRC are dedicated to reading, with a guest appearance each week from a member of staff sharing books they enjoy. So far we have had an introduction to Michelle Paver’s ‘Chronicles of Ancient Darkness’ series, a focus on books by Darren Shan and Riddles in the Dark from The Hobbit. Other activities have included making Top Trumps of favourite book characters, daring to choose a lucky dip book, and for Y7 and Y8, reading and joining in the Accelerated Reader Challenge to see who can be the Top Quizzer each week. Y7 winners are Thomas Marshall, Joshua Caley and Daisy Craven, and from Y8, Olivia Fox, Thomas Skellett and Ciaran Smith.
