All Year 7 and Year 8 students take part in the Accelerated
Reader (AR) program as part of their English lessons
and homework. After they have read a book, students
take an online quiz to check their understanding. If they
pass a quiz, the computer counts the number of words
they have read.

Tuesday Period 3
Year 7 students enjoying
more reading with Reading
Coaches from Years 9 & 10.
Thursday lunchtimes in the LRC are dedicated
to reading, with a guest appearance each week from
a member of staff sharing books they enjoy. So far we
have had an introduction to Michelle Paver’s ‘Chronicles
of Ancient Darkness’ series, a focus on books by Darren
Shan and Riddles in the Dark from The Hobbit.
Other activities have included making Top Trumps of
favourite book characters, daring to choose a lucky
dip book, and for Y7 and Y8, reading and joining in the
Accelerated Reader Challenge to see who can be
the Top Quizzer each week. Y7 winners are Thomas
Marshall, Joshua Caley and Daisy Craven, and from Y8,
Olivia Fox, Thomas Skellett and Ciaran Smith.
