Cycle Safe
Where should
we branch out to?
You will have seen some of
our posters around the school
campaigning for better cycle safety
by Kimberley Students. How many
different teachers have you seen
wearing their reflective gear? Please
be aware that, whilst some of the
pictures might raise a bit of a smile,
the message is extremely serious.
Make sure you are safe when out
and about on your bikes this winter.
For more information on how to
stay safe on your bikes, go and see
Mr Clegg, or talk to you one of your
Student Voice Representatives.
Recently we have been given an
opportunity to plant some new
trees around the campus. We are
currently looking for potential
sites for these. Whilst it is hard to
imagine the summer months at the
moment, the idea of the trees will
be to provide extra shade, so think
about where you like to sit during
the warmer weather and pass on
any ideas you have.
Member of Youth Parliament
Hi, I’m Alex Cargill, Member of
the UK Youth Parliament for Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire. If you’re not
familiar with Members of Youth
Parliament, or MYPs for short, then
we are elected for most constituencies in the UK to represent young
people aged 11-18 and push for
change in areas that concern our
generation.
Firstly, thank you to everyone who
took part in the Make your Mark
consultation that took place in
school a few weeks ago - there was
a fantastic turnout! A full breakdown
of how Kimberley voted can be seen
by clicking here.
Across the UK, 876,488 young
people took part in Make your Mark,
that’s 15% of all those eligible! The
UK top 5 issues were as follows:
‘Raise the minimum wage to the
living wage for all, regardless of age’,
‘Exam resits in Maths and English’,
‘Better work experience and careers
advice’, ‘Improving mental health
services’ and ‘Votes for 16 and 17
year olds in all public elections’.
Once the top 5 nation-wide issues
had been voted for, they were set
as the debate topics for the UK
