Sixth Formers Help to Prepare the Ryan Lee Trust Shop A talented group of A level art students have been taking part in helping a local charitable organisation, who support children with disabilities. Our task was to produce a mural designed to appeal to the children that attended the therapeutic play sessions there. As the Ryan Lee Trust has a big tie to the school, Mrs Debbie Lee suggested it would be more meaningful for the students of our school to produce the jungle themed wall art, instead of purchasing one from an external agency. Shauna Sheffield, Olivia Ryder, Hannah Carter, Tamara Bamford and Lauren O’Neill all took an enthusiastic approach to the project, collectively designing and painting the mural every Wednesday afternoon. It was a very lengthy and demanding process, and some students stayed after school and during the weekend ensuring that the project was completed to the best of their ability. A big thank you goes to those many people and organisations who have kindly donated paint and other materials. We are very proud of their work so far and can’t wait to see the reaction of the children. Maths News On the afternoon of 26th November, we were visited by the gifted and talented mathematicians from our family feeder schools. These students took part in the first of 4 sessions designed to develop and improve their problem solving skills. The students spent the afternoon investigating a range of problems and puzzles using both ICT and traditional methods. Students were also encouraged to think about how they set out and recorded their results. An exciting and interesting afternoon was had by all and the students have taken away an ongoing project, which we will be discussing during the second session early in the spring term. Mr Hillier KS3 Coordinator English News At the end of last half-term the English Department ran a poetry competition to commemorate the centenary of World War One for KS3 students. After many rehearsals, the show's opening night took place on Wednesday 3rd December. For many, it was their first time onstage in front of over 150 people - the story has been put together using classic character-driven scenes and physical theatre!
