Sixth Form News Charity News Parent Bulletin It has been a busy term fund raising wise in the Sixth Form. Valentine’s Day In February, Valentine’s Day initiatives led to £117 being raised in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind and The White Rose Hospice. The Charity Committee delivered over 100 preordered Valentine’s roses, cards and messages to the students and staff across school! Their organisation and co-ordination was superb. day, please see our centre spread in this newsletter or visit our interactive newsletter for video clips from the day’s activities at: www.kimberleyschool.co.uk/newsletter Attendance and Mock Exams The British Heart Foundation Beth Lee, in Yr 13, raised the profile of the British Heart Foundation by asking students to Wear Red on 6th February to support the British Heart Foundation. A total of £31 was raised for this cause. Comic Relief The Sixth Form’s major charity event of the term took place on Friday 13th March when we joined with the nationwide fundraising day for Comic Relief, raising an amazing £2074! For more information on this Another of our achievements in the Sixth Form is our attendance, which we are pleased to report is above the Ofsted National Average. During our Mock Exam week in February, attendance was superb, as was the students’ attitudes to achieving their academic goals. An impressive number of students for instance studied in the Common Room throughout the February Half-Term break too: the sign in sheets were full. Many of our Sixth Formers take the opportunity of working in the Common Room until 6.00pm each day, underlining their desire to achieve their best and their willingness to work hard to do so. Identity Cards All students in the sixth form have now been supplied with identity cards, which brings them in line with the staff in school in this respect. The first parent bulletin was emailed to parents on 6th February and a second went out in the first week of March. We hope Sixth Form parents/ carers find this a useful and informative initiative. We are planning to continue to produce a monthly bulletin to keep parents fully informed. If you are the parent of a sixth former and have not received a copy, please let us have your up to date email address. Drugs Awareness Prevent Team Last month, we held an assembly which focused on drug awareness which was run by a group called Think for the Future. Students commented on how interesting and informative this was. If you or your son/daughter have any concerns about drugs, advice can be sought from Think for the Future on 07963727344 or email [email protected] Work Experience It is that time of year again when our Year 12 students have already begun to apply for week-long Work Experience placements for the week June 29th-July 3rd. They are at varying stages of the process but many are set to begin in the summer in a variety of places: nurseries, primary schools, a law court, a local hospital and a library to name but a few. If you or anyone you know would appreciate the voluntary help of a Yr12 student in your business, please do get in touch and let us know.
