Primary
Matters
A big welcome to all Year 6 students who have been successful in their
application for a place at The Kimberley School!
We would also like to welcome their parents and carers too – we look forward to working with you.
It is important that, if your child has been offered a place here at The Kimberley School, you accept the place
as quickly as possible. The deadline will be on the letter or email you have received from your local authority.
You should have received a welcome pack in which you will find all the information that you need to ensure a
smooth transition for both you and your child. For students who attend our primary feeders, including Hempshill
Hall Primary and Greasley Beauvale Junior School, this pack will have been delivered via your child’s Year 6
teacher. For those who are from out of catchment schools, we have posted them directly to your home address.
In your Welcome Pack, you will find a wealth of information for you and your child concerning all matters
relating to the transition process. However, if you need any further information, please do not hesitate to
contact us. If you have been offered a place but have not received a welcome pack, please contact us and we will
remedy this situation immediately.
We take students’ details directly from the local authority’s lists and I am now aware that in a few cases these details
are wrong, including children’s names. If you have received a pack with such a mistake, then I apologise for this.
We rely on the local authority for accurate details and regret any case where a child’s name or gender is inaccurate.
We have developed our transition events this year to further support Year 6 students. In July, we have two
Induction Days and an extra transition event in the summer for students from out of catchment schools to help
them get to know The Kimberley School better. This extra transition event does not include Hempshill Hall Primary
School students as we consider Hempshill Hall a feeder school, so students have been involved in all our liaison
activities and know The Kimberley School already.
We also run a number of activities to help students who may find the transition from primary to secondary school
challenging. Some of these students have specific needs which means that they need to visit us more often and
some may simply need help and support in making new friends. If you feel that your child would benefit from extra
support, please contact us directly. We will endeavour to do everything we can to ensure that all Year 6 students
feel confident about their move to The Kimberley School.
If you are a parent or carer of a Year 5 student and would like to visit The Kimberley School before applications in
October, please contact us and we will be happy to arrange a tour for you and your child. The tour will be conducted
by our current Year 7 students and you will also be able to meet staff who lead the transition process, who will be
happy to answer any questions you have.
We appreciate that during the transition period we ask a lot of Year 6 teachers and other
primary school staff in terms of information and paper work. I would like to
take this opportunity to thank them for, without their support, we could not
make the Year 6 to Year 7 transition successful. Their contribution and
support is invaluable and much appreciated by us all at
The Kimberley School. Thank you.
