Kharisma: It’s such a great honour to have you here with me today, Mary, and to talk about
your purposeful body of work in the world!
Mary: Thank you, Kharisma. I’m so excited to be here.
Kharisma: Awesome. Share a little bit about your journey. What has led to where you are
today, and this amazing work that you’re putting out into the world?
Mary: Yeah. I mean, I first want to say that I think sometimes, we can be really hard on
ourselves about journeys, and think, ”Oh, I’m not going fast enough or far enough,” but
really, everyone’s journey is their own, and for my journey, it has been really interesting.
So, in college, I studied exercise science, and I was like, ”Yes,” you know? ”I love this. I
love the body. It’s amazing. It’s really a miracle,” and I was super excited about it.
And then somewhere along the way, I had this internship that was really, really
disappointing, and I just got all kind of lost, because out in the field, I was seeing
this lack of energy, and lack of fire, and focus on what was really important, and you
know, all I could concentrate on was, ”Wow, if this is what it’s like in the real world,
working in this field, what am I doing? This has nothing to do with what I love.”
And so out of college, I basically just got the first job I could, which was working
testing in a laboratory, right? Testing soaps, like dish soap and laundry soap. I
hated it.
