P
oets and philosophers have likened life to the pages of a book, the flowing waters of a river, a song, an
empty canvas to be painted or even a mountain to be climbed. But I’ve always believed that the best
metaphor for life and living is a journey. How wonderful then it is to have our annual year book titled ‘The
Journey’.
Year after year we are reminded that the destination is not our only goal. Like with any form of a journey,
there are times when the roads are straight and life is on an even keel and there are times when the way
forward is winding and dotted with potholes. It therefore becomes critical to pack with care and not carry
useless baggage. Also the journey becomes delightful if we have the right companions who will be our joy
and succour helping us through fair winds and foul. Remember to pause along the way, soak in the sights and
connect with other wayfarers. Listen and learn from their experiences and celebrate life’s myriad significant
signposts. As you journey along may the following lines of Stephen Grellet be your ‘gps’.
“I expect to pass through this way but once. Any good therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show
to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.”
