LOVE LYRICS

By Valentina Tudino

Music is part of everyone’s lives and, in some cases, it plays a very important role, as those people identify themselves with composers and song lyrics. Most of us have our favourite composer, musician or song. Would you like to know about my favourite song? I’ll tell you all about it: the lyrics, the singer, the origin of the song and the effect it has on me.

The song I’ve chosen is I Knew You Were Trouble. It was written by the same person that sings it. Her name is Taylor Swift and she is a young artist of only 22 years old. She was born in the U.S.A and her songs are mainly love stories. I Knew You Were Trouble was inspired by a relationship she had had with a boy and after they broke up she took the time to write and express what she was feeling at that moment.

The reason why I like this song is that the lyrics tell a universal truth that can be applied mainly to women. Before the song starts, there’s a brief introduction by the singer, who talks about the self-respect and dignity a woman should have in a love relationship. When the song starts, the singer expresses how good she felt when she was dating her boyfriend but she ends up telling us that having chosen that man had been a mistake since he abandoned her and that she knew she had made a bad decision when she started the relationship.

Despite the fact that these lyrics tell a sad story, the rhythm of the song is very cheerful and Taylor Swift sings in such a lively way that it brightens my mood and helps me relax. I think we should all have a favourite song to cheer us up and to put us in a more relaxed mood when we need so. It is scientifically proved that music releases stress, so why don’t we all start looking for those songs that can help us cope with difficult situations?
