The Ideal Classroom by Tushar Anand
Is it possible to have an Ideal Classroom ?
Yes , with the right set of actions , policies , mind-sets , and initiatives it is possible to reach the optimum level of a class , one where students feel comfortable , and all the material that they need to study can fit in their hands .
The ideal class for me would be one where the teacher goes beyond the purview of the prescribed curriculum and discusses things beyond it ; teachers play an important role in shaping the lives of their students . Therefore , they should never restrict themselves to discussing only the course content . An ideal class would be one where one need not go through the study material as the things discussed and taught in the class would prove to be enough for a student to ponder over and formulate an answer in the paper . It should have relevant and up to date examples , which are easy for students to recollect while writing the examination . The class size should be less than 15 ; this is because the less the students , the more the teacher can help all students individually . An ideal class should be not more than 2 hours long as anything beyond that would lead to attention deficiency which in turn would mean wastage of time . Technological changes have to be adopted in an ideal class , and some concepts can be taught through the usage of online Discussions , Ted talks and other relevant material available online .
An ideal class should have no wrong answers . Students should be appreciated for making an effort to answer . Once we have an ideal class , students would feel guilty of missing it , and the concept of attendance requirements for giving examinations would become obsolete . The ideal class should be a place where new ideas and suggestions flow around seamlessly .
