THE INFLUENCE OF WELL-KNOWN ARTIST WORK ON GAME DESIGN | Page 24

The practice of the research is a digital game project, Heron about a young female pilot in a space ship that crash landed on a prism shaped planet. The character discovers the whole world is made out of origami shapes, and it is up to the players to find a way out of the planet by finding a ship which still works. The game is a first person sandbox game, and the graphics were inspired by the art of surrealism.

During the development of practice, the game’s user interface had been debated, such as health bars, progress bar, and items. The only problems with these features are that they are repeated many times in previous games by other makers, and therefore the game needs to be more relaxed. The reason is Jenova Chen rejects the common game features as he made the Journey to be about using the power of wind to allow the character to progress through the levels. Therefore the practice will not have any progress bars or health bars as it’s against the research, and the character would only use powers to distort enemies, meaning the player can use items as power-ups to paralysis the origami creatures. The game will leave clues behind at the beginning to allow the players figure out how to find a way out of the world.
