To conduct the research is to interact and watch digital games to understand what the critics and writers have written from the 4 parts of the contextualisation chapter. This will explain how the practice can understand the methods of taking art inspiration from an artist George de Chirico into the game environment.

Journey

The game Journey, made by Thatgamecompany who made games based on gamers emotional feelings such as Flower, fLOW and Cloud (TGC, website, 2006). The game is about a hooded character who must reach for the light at the top of the mountain which is the plot of the story. The artistic inspiration for the game was the work of Giorgio de Chirico in surrealism that made gaming beautiful (Ishaan, website, 2011). In the contextualisation chapter it had mentioned a book How Games Move Us Emotion By Design by Katherine Isbister, in the book she had written about the maker of the game Jenova Chen’s reasons behind the game that he wanted the game to be more about the majestic environment that is why he used Giorgio de Chirico’s work for it (Isbister, 2016, p.120-12). His artistic influence made the game fun for the users because AAA games like Halo and Call of Duty are only about fighting for the best ranks in multiplayer gaming. The idea of using Georgio De Chirico made it better for the game, the interests of Jenova Chen that he loves visiting Art Galleries because he’s more passion in art than computing engineering (Baker, website, 2016).
