Raymond Walters Japanangka

Raymond Walters Japanangka was born in Alice Springs in November 1975. His grandfather’s country is Ngarleyekwerlang of Yuelumu (Mt Allan) and his grandmother’s country is Alhalkerre Atnangkerre (Boundary Bore) of Utopia. Ngarleyekwerlang is located 300km North West of Alice Springs. Boundary Bore is located 300km North East of Alice Springs. Both his grandparents come from the Anmatyerre language group. He also has extended family members from the Arrente, Western Aranda, Alywarre, Warlpiri and Kaytetye language groups.

Jo Bayalawuy Thorne

Jo is an artist from Galiwin’ku Community (Northern Territory), from the Djambarrpuyngu clan, Yolngu Matha and Djambarrpuyngu languages. Galiwin’ku is the largest community on Elcho Island, which is 150 km north-west of Nhulunbuy and 550 km north-east of Darwin. Elcho Island is at the southern end of the Wessel Island group, and is bounded on the western side by the Arafura Sea and on the eastern side by Cadell Strait. Galiwin’ku is the only town on Elcho Island, and is also the Aboriginal name for the whole island.

WENDY RIX

Her family are Noonghaburra people from north-western New South Wales, around the town of Goodooga (Yuwaalaaray language group). She is a self taught, contemporary Indigenous artist, based presently in Brisbane. Her artworks are not based on dreamtime stories, but a spiritual representation of her own story telling based on feelings, moods, values and circumstance.
