INTERVIEW
Hammerfall Publishing Interview - Cathrin Machin
(Warhammer 40,000: Regicide) by Vinny Parisi
I
never really got into tabletop games that required collecting,
sculpting, or painting miniature figures. In a world where I had
already been introduced to – and grown quite fond of – video
games during early childhood, the idea of having to put work and
physical skill into creating the pieces needed to play a game was
utterly unappealing to me. This came as something of a disappointment to a few of my friends though, because the moment
they came across the Warhammer 40,000 series on display in a
Games Workshop store at a recently opened shopping mall near
town, they were instantly hooked.
The Warhammer 40k series has endured since the late 80s across
seven definitive editions and countless expansions in the form of
books, comics, and video games. The series – even beyond the
tabletop miniature game – is beloved my fans the world over, with
the fantasy setting showing no signs fatigue or oversaturation. One
10
of the latest Warhammer-themed games, subtitled Regicide, is in
development at Hammerfall (a studio that also serves as a publisher) and coming first to PC before branching out onto iOS and
Android devices for a cross-platform compatible mobile edition.
To learn more about how Regicide fits into the expansive universe
of 40k, and why the series is so malleable in terms of cross-media
and countless video games across a variety of genres, I spoke with
Cathrin Machin, Project Lead on Regicide.
