forces and other charities, I instantly said yes.

We started to exchange messages and talk about what type of song style she wanted me to write, and most importantly of all, what did she want to write about?

Kirsten explained that the meaning behind the song was a true story, and about the break up of a relationship, and that her family meant the world to her.

I started putting some ideas down, but none of them felt right to me, nor in fact to Kirsten. The day after she put me out of my misery and messaged me saying that she was particularly good at coming up with one-liners, and sent me the Line ‘Mama Didn’t Raise No Fool’.

This was the moment it all clicked into place for me, I instantly knew that’d this phrase would be a great hook line! So I started writing the verses and then a big chorus around this, I built up a picture in my head of Kirsten’s feelings.

She also told me about her love for Motown, Jazz and all things retro. From here, I knew straight away who I could collaborate with to put the music put to my lyrics, Al Steele of Shabbey Road Studios, as I know, in the past, he has toured with and was the Musical Director for The Sound of the Supremes, in ’98 taking them to Banff, Canada. So we decided on a date to go into Shabbey Road, and collaborate on Mama Didn’t Raise No Fool, and we were both agreed that whilst keeping in line with a Motown style track, a modern edge to it would allow Kirsten to release the track in today’s music market, hopefully to capture the listener of 2016 and beyond.

I’m delighted and honoured to have co-written the song for Kirsten, and I believe she has the voice, presence and the right professional attitude to make this song a success, and maybe even a hit.

Kirsten’s humble personality made it so easy for me to work with her, and hopefully this is only the start of a long and successful partnership for us.

Tell me Something about your day at Shabbey Road.

Kirsten Orsborn: It was fantastic to record at Shabbey Road, I'd never been before but will certainly be going again. I loved it there and also loved working with Al and Gavin.

The single we recorded is based on a situation I have been in myself. I told the guys my real life story along with the lyric idea and they came up with this incredible summery motown style song, which was exactly what I wanted.

I really hope all my friends and supporters out there will also like it as I do this not only for myself but for everyone! – It was a great day and exciting to see the song develop from nothing.

The track ‘Mama Didn’t Raise No Fool’ will be going out to radio during July and also on my new album which is called ‘Lose Yourself in the Music’ on New Atlantic Records and available from my live gigs.

I love recording new music but I also love recording and performing some of the greatest
