As an independent band, are you completely DIY (writing/recording/producing, etc.)?

It hasn’t always been the case, but nowadays it is absolutely true. Over the years we have acquired the recording equipment, and experience to do everything “in house”. We started dinging this with our Side One album. It was a learning curve for sure. The only thing that we do externally now for the most part is the Mastering.

You have a unique songwriting ability that shows in the music you put out. Do you have a set process when writing?

Not really. Some songs are written by either Steve or myself and then brought to the band to work on. But more and more the song writing process has become a whole band effort, starting with Jam sessions which can give birth to song ideas.

Do you have any interests outside of BR that influence what you do?

We all have other interests. Matt has a home studio, and plays music with his Dad. Steve has his solo side musically project called “Black Whole Gravity”. Ari is an avid hiker, and represents the “Clan Wallace” at the highland games. I’m a big sports fan..a huge Arizona Cardinals and University of Arizona fan!!

I want to go back to your album Side One for just a moment. As a DIY band, what made you decide to put the album together and release it one song at a time as opposed to releasing the album as a whole at one time?

Well..we were just a year or two removed from our Desperation Daze album which was a big recording project. We were really happy at how that record turned out, but we didn’t want to go through another big budget/big stress recording project.
