Following recent iTunes charts success on the back of Australia’s Got Talent appearances, eclectic North Queensland band King Social have released the long-awaited music video for The Dancer.

The Dancer topped the Triple J Unearthed Charts when it was released in 2014 and peaked at #12 on iTunes’ Alternative charts and #77 on the iTunes Singles in the last week of March.

The song’s writer and King Social front man Angus Milne said it was great to see some commercial success for The Dancer two years after its initial release.

“The Dancer has always been a crowd favourite for fans in North Queensland and it’s good to know now that it resonates with people across the rest of Australia too,” said Milne.

“It’s a good fun song. I wrote it – or part of it at least – when I was living in Toowoomba and going out trying to pick up girls by busting a move in the local pubs. The dancing never worked.

“The song didn’t really come into its own until the full band was in studio recording a few other tracks. We decided to give The Dancer a go before we wrapped up, had a bit of fun with it as a bunch of mates just jamming and it turned out great,” Milne said.

“We had a lot of fun with the film clip too. We shot it in the Great Northern Hotel in Townsville – one of the venues we’d played in regularly when we were first starting out. The pub’s closed now, but we were given access to shoot in it, put a call out through Facebook for some people to come and be extras and just had hung out for the day.

“People are really excited about the video’s release and we’re pretty sure they won’t be disappointed.”

The Dancer was recorded at Vibetone Recording Studio and the official film clip produced by Taylor Creative.

The Dancer is available now King Social’s Big Man EP on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify and from www.kingsocial.com.au
