The IMC Magazine Issue 14/April 2016 - Page 38

It's been roughly five years since I embarked on my independent music journey. I had soured on the mess that had become mainstream radio and sought out an alternative means of keeping music an important part of my life. Along the way, I figured out that supporting independent artists meant stepping out of my comfort zone and listening to artists that I may not have considered in the past. Case in point is Atlanta, Georgia alternative duo Static.

Anthony Taibi & Logan Baker make up the duo Static. When I was first approached by them to listen to their debt EP About Time, I did my due dilligence and looked them up to get an idea of what I'd be hearing. They describe themselves as a music group that is "altering the alternative." I really had no idea what they meant until I pressed play. And holy shit was I blown away! It was like listening to my favorite mixtape from back in the day sprinkled with a dreamy pop/funk/r&b/alternative groove. I don't know how they manage it, but they pull off one hell of an impressive debut EP packed with so much in six songs that it makes my head spin.
