On May 20th , comedian , actor and producer Chris Tucker , star of the hit franchise of Rush Hour and the Friday films , received an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Morris Brown College . Dennis Kimbro , an author and business school professor at Clark Atlanta University , provided the keynote address at Morris Brown College ’ s commencement ceremony . Seventeen students graduated , which also included Sam Smith , who spent 50 years working at MARTA before retiring at 71 and returning to Morris Brown to complete his degree .
Actress Regina Hall is set to star in the upcoming comedy Support the Girls . The film began shooting last month in Austin , Texas and costars Jana Kramer , Lea DeLaria , Brooklyn Decker and James Le Gros . The film reportedly centers on a group of beleaguered women who work at a popular Hooters-style restaurant . After years of abuse at the hands of their miserly old boss , the ladies decide to hatch a plan to take revenge . Hall will play Lisa Conroy , a manager who joins her fellow employees in leading a revolt against the higher-ups . Support the Girls is an original Netflix production , the second Regina has worked on within the last year . As previously reported , she ’ ll also be appearing in Naked , a romantic comedy co-starring Marlon Wayans and set to air on the streaming channel later this fall .

Stand-up comedian Charlie Murphy , Eddie ' s older brother and most recognizable from his appearances on Comedy Central ’ s The Chappelle Show , has died from leukemia , his manager said . He was 57 . According to his manager , Charlie had been undergoing chemotherapy and died in a hospital in New York City . Charlie was recently on tour with Cedric the Entertainer , Eddie Griffin , George Lopez and D . L . Hughley on The Comedy Get Down Tour . More on Murphy in our featured article on page 23 .
