With all of that on tap, we got a chance to speak to Marlon about all of the above things mention and more. Here the interview; Humor Mill: Everybody, we have Marlon on the line to talk about all of his projects and more. Marlon, with your show on NBC titled Marlon, how much of this show can you relate to? Marlon Wayans: I can relate to pretty much all of this because pretty much all of this has happened to me. I would say about 85 percent has happened to me. HM: Did you talk to your brother Damon when you were doing this show? We say that because your brother Damon did My Wife And Kids and we see some similarities to this show, except in this show you guys are divorced? Did you pull some stuff from that show to pull some stuff from with any of the similarities? MW: What’s funny is the simple fact that every family show is going to be somewhat similar because it’s about family. But my brother and I, and lots of people, we raise our kids differently. Plus every comedian has their own point of view. As great as Cosby was, My Wife And Kids found its own lane which was great. The same thing with my show. I am a different kind of comedian, I am very physical, and even though we grew up in the same household I raise my kids a lot different than my brother does; we have two different perspectives, that’s the beauty you learn from being a stand-up comedian. Everybody is going to have their points of view on sex, politics, and family but no one is going to tell the jokes the way you would because our perspectives and our experiences are different. HM: Working with Essence Atkins and Bresha Webb had to be hilarious on set. Can you tell us how special that was? MW: They both are such strong actresses and they are both just comedically gifted. Our set is just like a group of jazz musicians doing jam sessions together. I start playing in the KEY and GEE and they all follow, if I switch to EFF or B-PHLAT they all follow me there too. They just listen well; and I encourage everybody to bring out the writer in them. HM: Speaking of writers, how much of it didn’t make the show? We can only imagine. MW: A lot didn’t make the show but a lot actually did. The funniest stuff, believe me, we found a way to put that in the show. HM: Can you give as a peek at what we can expect on the upcoming season on the show? MW: I think people are going to be looking forward to and people will be pleasantly surprised to find out that it’s not just a bunch of jokes, we actually have a great story, great characters, and the show has heart. I think that’s what’s going to make people tune in every week and root for this family and root for this relationship. It’s a beautiful love story to my kids, and I just hope people love it as much as I do cause its my life. 38
