"That the sky is burning, that the water's
burning, and in the smoke the frogs cry. That
the dream is burning, that the soul is burning.
They're death tongues those flares."
model in the effort of attaining
environmental sustainability. So, even
though
facing
worldwide
environmental deterioration is not an
easy task, this small but amazing
country is doing something about it.
I'm proud to call myself a "tica" (Costa
Rican). I'm sure I was born with this
beautiful land's genes in my DNA. I've
always been deeply passionate and
fascinated
by
nature
and
its
magnificence. At a young age I got
acquainted with what's known as the
"Blue
Flag"
certification.
This
certificate is awarded by the
Foundation
of
Environmental
Education (FEE) to the beaches,
marinas, and institutions that meet
their stringent standards and are
striving for a better quality and
preservation of natural resources. As a
youngster, being the elected president
for primary school and striving for
things just out of reach, I already had
meaningful plans in mind. My proposal
was for our school to become Blue Flag
certified. Looking back, it's interesting
to see how much a country's culture can
influence people, including the
youngest generation.
I think that having "los huevos" (the
courage) and the capacity to aim for
change along with the desire to make
a difference, any individual motivated
enough can do the same as Costa Rica
and contribute to a bigger cause.
