along the waterfront experiencing some
of our local Canadian history. You can
see how life was for our military during the War
of 1812. The fort was constructed to defend
against American attack and is the sight of the
longest American occupation in Canada.
Fort Malden has been slowly adding to and
reinventing experiences according to Alex Dale,
the interpretations officer for Fort Malden. "We
have really started to get more events on the
calendar over the past ten years. We have been
slowly increasing what we have been doing,
trying to change things and make it revived
and vibrant.”
Thanks to the Canada 150 Discovery Parks
Pass, entry into the fort is free this year. Dale
says that this also gives a small incentive for
people to visit and be reminded of what the
Fort has to offer visitors”I think people are
reconnecting with us. We are really trying to
use this year to showcase what we have and
what we can do. Hopefully people will say yeah
this is a really cool place and take their family
for visits and day trips."
