Officially a City of Windsor park, Peche Island has picnic areas, washrooms and lots of canals and paths to explore. “We host outings to the island at least a dozen times a year, sometimes just paddling in and around the island. Other times we get out and enjoy the beaches on the west end of the island. We love doing a night paddle from the west end paddling east in the dark,” says Chauvin. Our little group of Hubsters went over in the sunshine, but a night paddle might be our next adventure. Chauvin would love to see a water shuttle run on a regular basis. “It would give many different people of all ages and abilities the ability to go and see the beauty of the island.” While we were there, we saw a variety of boats, from kayaks and canoes, to small fishing boats, to larger sailboats. The island definitely seemed to have something to offer everyone. Olivia Ridpath has been to the island a few times with family and friends. “The first time, our friends had a boat and they wanted to go,” said Ridpath. “It’s really nice! The trails are great to walk on and the beaches are beautiful.” Just like Chauvin and the WECCC, Ridpath enjoys the Early this summer, Drone Fly Tours filmed a group of kayakers visiting Peche Island.
