Sails to See Tall Ships Festival

The high seas come to Southwestern Ontario with the Sails to See Tall Ships Festival in late August . Windsor-Essex Pelee Island combines to bring you the final stop of the Tall Ships 1812 Tour commemorating the Battle at Lake Erie . The tall ships can be found at five different ports in our area , including Amherstburg , Kingsville , Pelee Island and Windsor . Altogether the tall ships sail to 15 places this summer .
Five ships travel across Ontario . The festival features the Pride of Baltimore 2 , the Peacemaker , the Unicorn , the Lynx and more .
For just a $ 5 Port Pass ( Children under 5 are free ), guests can tour the decks of tall ships and learn about sailing the seas . There are festival events all weekend . Many activities along the riverfront are open to the public with no charge . The Windsor port also showcases an Artist ’ s Market , the Arden Dance Academy troupe , local musical talent The Walkervilles and a free screening of Hook at the Capitol .

Butterfly Brain Injury Memorial

A new sculpture for Windsor ’ s riverfront was approved mid-July , making it the first memorial sculpture dedicated to brain injury in Canada . Linking the concept of acquired brain injury to the fragility of the butterfly , this memorial sculpture will seek to raise awareness and serve as a permanent reminder . The Brain Injury Association is seeking donations to support the sculpture . See www . biawe . com for information about how to help .
