Southern India

We spent 2 weeks with family in Coimbatore in Southern India during the summer vacation. Athreya and Anika loved meeting their grandparents, cousins and the extended family. While we were there, we traveled to Delhi and did the Golden-Triangle trip, which includes the Taj Mahal in Agra, Qutub Minar in Dehli, and the palaces in Jaipur. Athreya's favorite was the Qutub Minar and the elephant ride in Jaipur, and Anika loved the Taj Majal. She was very interested in learning about the marble inlay work used to build it.

Europe

Our family chased summer for three months in Europe, traveling south from Germany to Switzerland, France, Spain and England as part of Steve’s fall sabbatical from Maryville University.

Along with their parents and younger sister Mavis, Sage and Emerson visited the magical Black Forest and several castles in Germany. In Switzerland, they took a cable car ride into the clouds atop the 7,000 foot Mt. Pilatus.

They then visited several cities on the south coast of France, where they played in the Mediterranean Sea, visited a 2,000 year old aqueduct, and observed hundreds of wild flamingos.

Their next stop was Spain, where they explored Gaudi’s buildings, ate tapas, and watched on as the Catalans protested to separate from Spain. The last stop was England, where the kids were thrilled to ride a double decker bus and play at a Peter Pan-themed playground.
