Shipshewana Town News The staff at the “Shipshewana Event Center and Auto Museum” is very excited to announce the booking of “Spike and the Bulldogs” for two engagements scheduled for June 8 and November 9 this year at the Event Center. This iconic group has been a favorite dance band for many years in Northeastern Indiana and southwest Michigan playing 50’s and 60’s music from such artists as Bill Haley, The Beach Boys, Righteous Brothers and artists from the Motown sound. The group has been an opening act for the Beach Boys, Chubby Checker and Herman’s Hermits and has been voted “Best Oldies Rock Performer” from 2002 thru 2009 by the readers of “whatzup” magazine (Yes, there really is a magazine by that name!).Each of their engagements is well attended, so make sure you get your tickets early by calling the Event Center at 7683021. Tickets in advance are $15.00 per person and will be $20.00 at the door. In each case a 50% discount will be given on the admission price to the Hudson Auto Museum. Plan on attending, it’s going to be a great evening of good old Rock and Roll and as an added value, tour the Hostetler Hudson Auto Museum! Town staff continues to work on spring projects that will require attention. Dean Gillette has been out a number of times sweeping the streets. He continues to fill as many of the potholes as possible despite the tendency of this year’s winter wanting to stick around. The small “monsoon” of April 18 and 19 put a lot of pressure on the Town storm water and wastewater systems, but again Dean and Boyd Jones did an excellent job of keeping the systems working. Tim Sheteron is spending a large portion of his time completing the usual prepping, repair and upgrades to the soccer field and the ball diamonds. Tim also does a great job overseeing the Shipshewana portion of the Pumpkinvine Trail and still continues to take care of many, if not most of the maintenance issues in the towns facilities including the Event Center/Auto Museum. Tim’s electrical background is not only valuable with those projects, but also in assisting both Dean and Boyd. The town will be hiring Keith Prill effective May 6 to assist in the duties in both water and wastewater. Keith is a fourth year civil engineering student at Trine University in Angola, Indiana and will be serving in an intern program for approximately 15 weeks this summer. The program allows Keith to gain some job training and blend this with his academics. The program also allows Boyd Jones the opportunity to work on various maintenance procedures and programs, review and make recommendations on the water and sewer ordinances and begin planning for a mapping program that will allow the Town to have easily accessible mapping of water, sewer and storm water systems. The intern program is somewhat new and offers an opportunity I like my mom because she does not make me work in the garden and does not make me chore. — Justin, age 9 by Mike Sutter to provide job experience to certain engineering students who express a desire to work in water distribution and wastewater collection. The benefit to the town is that it provides permanent personnel the needed time to complete some very important infrastructure planning and administrative projects and still serve the needs of our customers. The town reminds everyone that operating a golf cart is allowed, but the cart must be properly permitted by the town and does require the operator to have a valid driver’s license. Operation of the golf cart is intended to be on town streets and doesn’t include driving it on state roads. With spring comes a desire to clean out your unwanted ‘stuff’ and offer it in a garage sale. Again, garage sales require a permit, if held within the Town’s limits. Staff at the Town hall can also assist with this requirement.
