Treasure Tots kids take part in Eisteddfod
Treasure Tots in Modderfontein are very proud of their lit-

On Spring Day, Thornhill Manor
planted a tree to commemorate
Arbor Week 2017, celebrated
from September 1 to 7. The Rand
Aid-run retirement village plants a
tree each year during Arbor Week.
A Leucosidea sericea, commonly
known as Ouhout in Afrikaans,
was donated by Servest, which is
responsible for maintaining the village’s beautiful gardens. The Servest team also dug
the hole and prepared the soil for planting. The occasion was well organised by Jenny
Brownson (Garden Club chairperson), who welcomed all those attending and said a
short poem, ‘Trees’ by Joyce Kilmer. This was followed by a prayer of prosperity by
Lynn Peters (Chapel chairperson) for both the tree and what it would provide for the
residents. Lovely eats and tea were served afterwards. A raffle, donated by Joyce van
Leeuwen, was raffled and the funds raised were donated to Thembalami Care Centre.

Thornill Manor held its annual
Singles’ Dinner on Wednesday,
September 20. The ladies – and
two gentlemen – who call the
Rand Aid retirement village home
enjoyed a glass of wine and a deli-
cious meal cooked by Cookchill,
the NPO’s in-house catering divi-
sion. A fun competition was held,
in which participants had to identify a number of celebrities. “The decorations were
lovely and everyone dressed in black and white,” says deputy complex manager Jackie

This beautifully iced Christmas cake can be won at Thorn-
hill Manor’s annual Family Fun Day and Fête on Saturday,
October 7. It was lovingly baked by Carol Olive. Pictured
with her is Janet Colville, the convener of the cake stall.
The Rand Aid retirement village’s fête will have plenty to
keep visitors of all ages busy, with stalls offering unique
items rather than mass imported goods; food stalls; and a
beer and tea garden. It will run from 9am to 1pm.
