6 | Greenstone events Local schools celebrate World Literacy Day In light of the recent World Literacy Day (8th September), Holy Rosary High School’s girls and teachers dressed up as their favourite literary characters to celebrate the day. There was a wonderful spirit of enthusiasm. Seen here are a group of Grade 11s dressed as Snow White and The Seven Dwarves: Kelly Winter, Grace Morgan, Silindile Mthembu, Zandri Du Toit, Michaela Mitchell, Jadelyn Davies, Thandi Okwirry and Taylor Sheffield. To encourage a love of books and reading, a number of Grades from Eastleigh Primary School visited the Edenvale Public Library on World Literacy Day. Above: Ms Suckling and her Grade 2 class Above right: Mrs Kielty and her Grade 1 class Right: Mrs Pather and Grade 7 Treasure Tots celebrate Heritage Day St Andrew’s pupil and Spring Day competes in England Fabiana Cimato, a grade 9 pupil at St Andrew’s School for Girls, competed in the World Lyrical Dance Federa- tion competition in Stratford Upon Avon, England. Her team made it to the finals and placed 2nd out of all the countries that participated. Fabiana placed 2nd in the Supporting Solo u/16 section for her Solo and her group dance u/18 made it through to the finals for World Championships where they placed 2nd. Treasure Tots celebrated our Heritage diversity by dressing up according to our culture or bring something to represent our different cultures. Some children and teachers tasted food they have never tasted before. A night with one of South Africa’s most popular wildlife photographers Hillside Community Church is proud to host Chad Cocking, a game ranger and noted wildlife photographer for an evening of photography tips and tricks, bush stories and an auction of exclusive prints. The children put on a show for them and then they all went out to decorate the gardens with seeds and seedlings.
