14 | Greenstone business Exclusive accommodation with a personal touch Situated on a quiet road in Eastleigh Ridge on the outskirts of Greenstone, The Ridge on Hudson offers top class short and long-term accommodation for business and leisure travellers alike in a garden cottage setting. W hen sitting on the balcony of The Ridge on Hudson, enjoying the peace and quiet and listening to the sounds of the abundant bird life, it is hard to imagine that you are a mere kilometre or so away from Greenstone Shopping Centre as the crow flies. Located in the boomed off and secure suburb of Eastleigh Ridge, it is a quiet neighbourhood which offers quick and convenient access to the airport, Johannesburg CBD, Sandton, and of course all that Greenstone has to offer. Opened at the beginning of the year by husband and wife team, Giorgia and Daniele Schiavi, The Ridge on Hudson offers six double bed rooms with Egyptian cotton linen, soft, thick towels and modern facilities including wi-fi, a flat screen television with satellite TV, air conditioning, a fridge, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, microwave, digital safe, secluded outdoor seating area and secure parking. No strangers to the hospitality industry – the couple are owners of the popular Buonissimo pizzeria in Modderfontein and co-owners of the recently opened branch at the Greenstone Crescent Shopping Centre – they had always toyed with the idea of doing something on the expansive piece of land which adjoined their home in Eastleigh Ridge. “We are hospitality people,” laughs Daniel. This year we have opened up a new Buonissimo branch, will be moving the Modderfontein restaurant to the old Dynamite Coffee Shop site, and decided to open up a bed & breakfast too!” They have lived on the property for three years, and after a year of building, opened The Ridge on Hudson for business this past January. The aim is to offer business travellers safe and convenient accommodation with all the modern amenities they will need, or alternatively, for tourists who need to spend a night or two in Johannesburg before heading off to the country’s other holiday destination. It is also a great addition for Greenstone residents who may need overflow accommodation if they don’t have space to accommodate visiting friends or family in their own homes; it is just down the road, and the shuttle service which they offer – to and from the airport or to local shops and attractions – is another bonus. The 20m 2 rooms, five with queen sized beds, and one with two singles are beautifully and tastefully decorated and offer travellers a spacious and tranquil home away from home. No expense has been spared to ensure that guests have a pleasant stay, including massage showers in all the en suite bathrooms. Being in the restaurant trade, food is naturally a big focus for the owners. The choice of breakfasts, served from 6:30-9am, include a Full English Breakfast along with extras such as fresh fruit, yogurt, muesli, muffins and scones. The link to Buonissimo is helpful too, as guests can order from their extensive menu and have the meals delivered directly to their rooms (or alternatively they can be shuttled to the restaurant for a meal). The Ridge on Hudson are currently running a promotion until the end of 2017 with discounted rates of R650 per night for single and R950 per night for double until the end of the year. They also offer specials for long-term or extended stays. So if you are in need of exclusive accommodation with a family touch in Edenvale, close to amenities, the airport and business areas, The Ridge on Hudson will be your ideal destination.
