The Greenstone Guide December 2017

DECEmber 2017 15 It is that time of year again when being healthy is a tough job... But with a little planning and discipline, you can still enjoy the festive period without worrying about losing shape. e have almost made it – a ‘few more sleeps’ as the kids would say, and 2017 will be done and dusted. It has been quite the year, what with Trump, Mugabe, Zuma, Brexit, natural disasters, water shortages and terror attacks stealing the headlines, but here at The Greenstone Guide, we like to focus on the positive side of life. In October, a Facebook page sparked an amazing conversation between South Africans about race with a few simple questions, and the answers to these hilarious questions managed to united people of all races across the country. In Cape Town, also in October, a team of dedicated heart surgeons, clinicians and medical engineers perfected a heart valve that will save millions of young lives, particularly in poor communities, across the globe. There was news of a South African teen winning the grand prize at the Google Science Fair, the story of 28 builders who heroically saved a Joburg man from being hijacked, and this week, Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters winning the Miss Universe crown. There is good news out there, you just have to look for it!
