Do you get it now?

So bascially I think we have all come to realize that rhetoric is not something to joke around with and it can be some pretty cool stuff. We use rhetoric daily, we see it used daily, and we may even have it used on us unknowingly. These three schools of thought on rhetoric have shaped many down the road and especially have shaped how we use and view rhetorical situations today.

Even more so, all three schools of thought work together and influence each other and not only tie in with each other but help us tie together three other important things, truth, reality, and knowledge.

Rhetoric is the key to obtaining truth, to live in our reality, and to expand on our knowledge. Have a question about truth? I'm sure rhetoric has your answer, if not possibly one of the schools of thought sorrounding it does. Need to obtain more knowledge, why not engage in dialectic? That seems to be a popular thing to do.

We use rhetoric all the time, and as EWM majors we need to know why. Most importantly, we need to know how to produce effective rhetoric (I mean that's the point, right?). If we don't appeal to emotion, audience, truth, knowledge, or logic, do we even have a shot a effective rhetoric? Accoring to these guys you are better off nailing jello to a tree. (Good luck, we've tried).

So, we encourage you next time you are watching that politician give a speech, or your mom is trying to explain to you why you don't need any more money this month to live, to notice the rhetorical elements used in the speach. Perhaps dissoi loggoi was a key part, or maybe it was simply logos, or perhaps a skilled rhetorician used a little bit of all of what we talked about. Either way, you can feel satisfied knowing what you know, and who knows, maybe one day you'll be using effective rhetoric yourself.
