The Big Debate – Midweek weddings

A study has shown that 1 in 3 couples nowadays are opting for a midweek wedding in a bid to save money. Of 500 brides surveyed, the study found that the number of weekend weddings had fallen to 67 per cent, whilst 15 per cent were opting to get married on a Friday. With the average cost of a wedding mounting year on year, getting wed midweek is becoming one of the most common ways to stretch that all-important budget. But is it okay to ask your guests to take a day off work to attend?

As mentioned, midweek weddings are a common way to help the budget stretch further, and if this is the case then it’s likely that you’ll be limiting your guest list anyway. If you’re after an intimate affair, then it’s probable that your guests will be more than happy to take a day off work anyway, as they’re close family or friends. If this is the case, just be tentative about how you approach the subject. A no holds barred “we expect you to take a day’s holiday to accommodate us” approach is unlikely to go down well with your guests, even if they are very close to you and your other half.

Whilst your nearest and dearest will do their utmost to attend you big day whether it is on a weekend or weekday, you must consider the location particularly carefully if you plan on going for the weekday option.
