The Auvergne is such a unique region in central France, there really is no place quite like it. Not only is the landscape varied but it is beyond breathtaking. The Auvergne is famous for its range of volcanoes, Chaine des Puys, of which there are 80 domes and craters which erupted here some 100,000 and again a mere 7,000 years ago and which today span about 30km. This series of volcanic peaks overlooks the town of Clermont Ferrand and the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park is Europe’s largest regional park. As well as the impressive range of volcanoes the Auvergne has an incredible variety of fauna and flora, charming villages, impressive castles and preserved churches. Vichy, home to the famous mineral water is a major town in the Auvergne, thus making Spas and well-being centres a big attraction for holiday makers to the region. Along with numerous outdoor activities available in this remarkable part of France this is a fabulous place for a family or active holiday.
