We might all hanker after a 5 star stay in the city of light but for most of us, it’s way beyond our budget. However, with a little know-how, you can enjoy 5 star luxury and not have to take out a bank loan.

5 Star Paris Dining and Drinking without breaking the bank

The Paris Peninsula hotel opened in a former palace in 2014. It has been consistently in the 'top ten hotels in the world' list ever since. The very wealthy and very famous stay here and with prices starting from 795 Euros for a room it’s certainly amongst the most expensive hotels in France.

However - you can dine here at an incredibly reasonable price if you know my secret! The Lobby Restaurant opened at the end of 2015 in the former grand dining room of the hotel. The most exquisite food is served from the Menu du Marché which has plenty of choices. The food is prepared by a top chef and for a two course dinner (or lunch) it’s only 48 Euros. They do a smashing afternoon tea too!

Café de la Paix is a Paris institution. It opened its doors in 1862 and has never looked back. Oscar Wilde was a regular and Marlene Dietrich too. Right next to the Opera Garnier, this place has been pleasing and pulling in the crowds for decades and with this location and iconic status it doesn’t come cheap.

However, if you opt for a seat on the terraces of the restaurant instead of inside, the menu is around half the price. Yes it’s different food, the meals inside are haut cuisine, seafood platters piled high on ice, versus deliciously presented fish and chips on "The Terraces". Inside tends to take longer so if you're in a hurry, the terraces are good for "fast food" (though we are definitely not talking burger chain here).

It’s a covered terrace (great for when it’s raining or cold) and in fine weather it extends outside to face the famous Opera house.
