DAVID SHELDRICK
Mjr. David Leslie William Sheldrick was a park warden and a popular naturalist based in Kenya ,who turned the eastern sector of Tsavo into Kenya’s most famous and largest national park. He was one of the first to study the feeding patterns and movement of elephants. Together with his wife, they rescued the vulnerable rhinos, elephants and antelopes. In 1948, David Sheldrick began his renowned career within the Kenya’s Royal National Parks, where he unwaveringly worked for over 20 years transforming Tsavo’s Eastern Sector- an inhospitable and unchartered land - into the largest and most famous National Park in Kenya.
He held the Tsavo East Warden post until the end of 1976 when he was transferred to Nairobi to head of the Planning Unit for all of Kenya's Wildlife Areas.

Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and its wilderness, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is presently the world’s most successful rescue and rehabilitation program for orphaned elephants and rhinos. It is among the first habitat and wildlife protection conservation organizations in East Africa.
It is located at the Nairobi National Park, where orphaned elephants and rhinos
are cared for until they reach an age where they can live by themselves in
their own environment. The Trust was founded in 1977 by Dr. Dame Sheldrick, in honor of the memory of her late husband David Sheldrick, who was the founding Warden of Tsavo East National Park. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT)
is behind a rich and deeply rooted family history and is a result of
one family’s dream and love for Kenya’s natural habitat.
