Albania also proved a tricky destination for a few reasons, not
least the road surfaces, which in places were little more than
dirt tracks. Having been delayed earlier in the day, Team ERS
missed the police escort entering the country and had a nerve
wracking few hours driving in the fading light to reach Tirana.
Furthermore, in Greece, a front tyre dramatically blew just
a few kilometres from the grid in Athens, putting the team’s
emergency repair skills to the test. After many calls a replaced
tyre was sourced in the early hours of the morning and Team
ERS made the ferry to the final destination of Mykonos.
So that was the Gumball. Bigger than an adventure, more like
a 3000-mile roller coaster ride, Team ERS survived to tell the
tale and as Alex returns to his day job, he can say with complete
confidence he knows exactly what drives the passions of the
dedicated, eccentric petrol heads that take part.
