This year, thousands of holidaymakers
will take to the roads of Lanzarote in
hired vehicles. It’s a good time to review
the legal requirements for both tourists
and residents before taking to the road.
Many of these items will be provided with
a hire car, but if you're borrowing a friends
car it pays to make sure.
n Passport, current until after your return home
n Current driving licence, preferably the EU type.
n Two EU approved, red warning triangles
n Approved reflective jackets - that must be worn by all
outside the car at the side of any highway
n A set of spare lamps/bulbs for your car and the tools to
change them
n If you wear corrective glasses or contacts for driving, a
spare pair
n Valid insurance
n All vehicle documents relating to the car (legally certified
copies are OK)
n Recommended, but not mandatory is a First Aid kit and a
fire extinguisher.

by fines and loss of points.
n Using a mobile phone while driving.
n Riding without a seatbelt, either in
the front or back seats.
