Buyer Agency Laws in Maryland Maryland is known to be a progressive consumer advocacy state. Buyer Agency was introduced in the late 1990s and is an example of the way Maryland was ahead of many states in protecting the interests of home buyers. If you’ve purchased a home in Maryland any time since 1999, then you should have been made aware of Maryland Agency Laws—who represents whom in a real estate transaction. The Maryland Real Estate Commission is responsible for overseeing the nearly 40,000 licensed real estate salespeople and brokers throughout the state.
