Sheriff ’ s Office Invites COMMUNITY SUPPORT

According to its mission statement , The Frederick County Sheriff ’ s Office is a full service law enforcement agency ; an arm of the court , and a keeper of offenders . In this regard it exists to serve all the people within Frederick County with respect , fairness , and compassion .
While the Sheriff ' s Office is committed to the prevention of crime ; the protection of life and property ; the preservation of peace and order ; the enforcement of laws and ordinances ; the safeguarding of constitutional guarantees ; and safekeeping of prisoners , its foundation is community service , with goals to enhance the quality of life , investigating problems as well as incidents , seeking solutions and fostering a sense of security in communities and individuals .
On its website , the sheriff ’ s office states that its officers understand that they are a part of one of the few agencies of government that never closes , and therefore , may be called upon to perform many different tasks for the community . “ We will always strive to professionally and enthusiastically respond to the community ' s needs ,” it states .
Some of the many ways the sheriff ’ s office works to serve its mission of community policing include :
Citizens Advisory Committee The advisory committee was established to provide the Sheriff ' s Office a forum for police-community interaction and to address public safety and related issues in order to further enhance the quality of life in our community .
Community Assistance Patrol ( CAP ) It is the goal of the Sheriff ' s Office to enlist the voluntary services of citizens to improve the efficiency and productivity of the office . This program is an effort to provide non-law enforcement services via community involvement thus allowing certified deputies more time to respond to calls that require law enforcement .
Volunteering in law enforcement is expanding . As a law enforcement agency , the sheriff ’ s office asks for residents ’ support in combating and deterring crime through community involvement , keeping in line with its Community Policing philosophy , whereas the police and community join together as partners and work as a team .
Through the CAP program , the sheriff ’ s office aims to not only improve the overall quality of life in the community , but also broaden the communications network along with bringing in new skills and expertise to the sheriff ' s office .
Duties and responsibilities of members of the CAP program include :
• Traffic direction and control
• Business and residential checks
• Securing crime scenes and searches
• Parade and funeral escorts
• Fingerprinting
• Educational presentations based on skills and expertise
• Crime prevention and Neighborhood Watch programs
